Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents have brutally shot and murdered a person in Minneapolis again. Amica Center denounces the lethal tactics of federal law enforcement. We cannot normalize the unchecked violent occupation of neighborhoods and cities under the guise of immigration enforcement. This is not immigration enforcement—it’s racist, brutal attacks dressed up in an ICE uniform.

Last year, Congress gave the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and ICE $170 billion and has done nothing but watch as that money is used to make everyone less safe. DHS and ICE must immediately put an end to their siege in Minneapolis, Maine, Washington DC, Los Angeles, and all other cities in the United States.

“The President speaks of insurrection as he sells his populist lies about our immigrant friends and neighbors,” said Michael Lukens, Executive Director at Amica Center, ” but the only insurrectionists I see on the news are the federal law enforcement agents who have abandoned the rule of law and are actively undermining our country with reckless and brutal tactics.”

Our sadness at these events is equal only to our anger. Enough is enough. How many more community members have to be murdered, families ripped apart, and children left without parents before Congress takes action? Call your Congressional representatives and demand accountability and no more ICE funding.
