Today, a deeply troubling executive order was issued that empowers the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) to share information with ICE about anyone they encounter. This disturbing policy strips away the rights and safety of our communities. Even the most common police interactions—such as a traffic violation or reporting a crime—can have life-altering consequences for immigrants, including detention and deportation. 

This reckless move puts lives at risk. Immigrants who are victims or witnesses of a crime may now hesitate to seek help, fearing that their information could be handed over to ICE. This policy adds to the atmosphere of fear and distrust, perpetuates racial profiling, and criminalizes innocent people. The implications are clear: our city becomes less safe for everyone as community members are pushed into silence and fear.
