Last night, President Trump issued an Executive Order that bans citizens from twelve countries from entering the United States and restricts the entry from seven others. This move, similar to Trump’s first travel ban in 2017, is yet another shameful act rooted in xenophobia and anti-immigrant malice.

The travel ban suspends entry into the United States for people from Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Yemen. It also limits entry for people from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan, and Venezuela.

Michael Lukens, Executive Director of Amica Center, said:

“It is no surprise that we are here again. President Trump and his white house cronies have made populist-messaging of immigrant hatred a hallmark of their administration.

To justify their actions, the White House cited national security interests and the need to protect the country from terrorism. However, this reasoning is the same hollow argument they have repeatedly used for their xenophobic policies. This false narrative maliciously paints all immigrants as threats and stokes hatred and fear in our communities.”

We cannot allow for the degradation of due process and the rule of law in the name of “safety.” Amica Center fully denounces this action and stands ready to continue to fight for our clients, friends, family, and communities.

Our opposition will continue to be loud and brash – we will defend one another.
