Even though our offices are closed from Monday, December 23rd, through Thursday, January 2, our development staff will be available to assist people looking to make a calendar year-end donation. Amica Center for Immigrant Rights (formerly known as CAIR Coalition) is a 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization. EIN: 52-2141497.
Here are nine ways you can give by December 31st
Online: To make a gift via credit card, please visit www.amicacenter.org/donate. Credit card gifts made online should be completed before midnight December 31 to qualify as a tax-deductible contribution in 2024. IRS guidelines require that online credit card transactions be completed by 11:59 p.m., December 31st (based on the time zone in which the gift is made), so those gifts can count in the calendar year.
Phone: Please call the Development Office at (207) 899-3987 by 10 p.m. EST on Thursday, December 31st. Leave a message including your name and phone number, and a staff member will return your call promptly to assist you. To ensure the security of your information, please do not leave your credit card information on the voicemail.
Gifts by check: If you mail a check, the envelope must be postmarked by December 31st by the U.S.P.S. to count as a gift for 2023. Please make the check payable to “Amica Center for Immigrant Rights” and mail it to our address: Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, 1025 Connecticut Avenue NW Suite 701, Washington, D.C. 20036, Attention: Development Department
Grants from donor-advised funds (DAFs): A flexible and tax-efficient way to manage charitable giving. By contributing cash, securities, or other assets to a DAF, you may be eligible for an immediate tax deduction. You can then recommend grants to the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights at a time that suits you while the funds potentially grow tax-free in the account. Now, you can donate with your DAF in just three clicks from 1000+ DAF providers.
Gifts by ACH/wire transfer: Gifts by ACH/wire can be transferred into our account on or before December 31st to qualify as a tax-deductible contribution for 2024. Please contact development@amicacenter.org or (202) 899-3987 for updated transfer instructions.
Gifting stocks or appreciated assets: If you have stocks that have increased in value since their purchase (and you’ve held them for more than a year), you can donate them to Amica Center and potentially avoid capital gains taxes. This means you could save on taxes while possibly being able to donate a larger amount than if you sold the stocks and then donated the cash. Gifts of appreciated assets can be transferred into our brokerage account via electronic transfer. Shares must be transferred into our account on or before December 31st to qualify as a tax-deductible contribution for 2024. Please contact development@amicacenter.org or (202) 899-3987 for updated transfer instructions.
Matching gifts: Amica Center also accepts matching gifts. Many companies offer a matching gift program, and some even match spouses and retirees. To learn if your company offers a matching gift benefit, visit our matching gifts page.
Qualified charitable distributions: If you are over 70, you can use Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) from your Individual Retirement Account. A QCD allows you to donate up to $100,000 directly to a qualified charity without including the distribution as taxable income. This can be particularly advantageous if you are subject to Required Minimum Distributions, as a QCD can count towards satisfying this requirement.
Tribute gifts: You can honor a family member, friend, or colleague by making a tribute gift online. Please include the recipient’s email address, mailing address, and a brief message if you’d like Amica Center to send a notification. Your gift amount will not be disclosed.
Plan your legacy: Allow your legacy of caring to live on. Just one sentence in your Will can make a life-changing difference in the lives of immigrants. “I bequeath $______________ or $______ of my estate to Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, tax ID 52-2141497, 1025 Connecticut Avenue NW, Suite 701, Washington, D.C. 20036, to be used for general operating purposes.” Please let us know if your plans already include a gift to Amica Center.
Regardless of how they are made, your contributions are critical in sustaining and advancing immigrant rights.
