  • The Senior Accountant is a full-time position, working directly with the Director of Finance to support the financial operations for the organization.

    • Supervise and provide guidance to the senior finance coordinator to ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial records, including meeting all deadlines.
    • In conjunction with the Director of Finance provide staff training in areas of budget development, budget management, fiscal accountability, and financial procedures.
    • Perform the reconciliation of select Balance Sheet accounts monthly.
    • Perform monthly contribution reconciliation with Development.
    • Review accounts payable for accuracy including review of support for the bill.
    • Act as Accounts Payable backup during staff time off.
    • Collaborate with Director of Finance and departments leads to develop and implement accounting policies and procedures.
    • Assist with annual audit and Form 990 including preparing preliminary workpapers and schedules.
    • Process annual 1099’s from start to finish
    • Prepare month-end workpapers and JE’s for uploading into SAGE.
    • Supervise and review monthly funder invoices prepared by Senior Finance Coordinator for accuracy.
    • Supervise and review grant financial reports prepared by Senior Finance Coordinator for accuracy.
    • Supervise and review monthly Program department progress reports, MLSC Burn Rate report & quarterly Program department budget balance reports prepared by Senior Finance Coordinator.
    • Act as backup to Senior Finance Coordinator for monthly invoicing purposes.
    • Ability to work East Coast hours to be in alignment with Director of Finance.
    • Perform other duties as assigned and prepare ad hoc reports as needed to support the accounting team’s goals and objectives.

    Salary [2]:

    The salary range for this position is $80,100-$101,000.

The compensation model we use is based on an individual’s position and years of relevant work experience to avoid salary discrepancies and to reduce the risk of racial, gender, or other forms of bias affecting a candidate’s salary.

    Supervise the Senior Finance Coordinator

     

    Location and/or Travel Requirements:

    (Washington, DC / Baltimore, MD / Remote for the right candidate)

     

    Telework:

    Amica Center operates a hybrid work environment. Most staff are required to work at least one day per week in-office, but some roles require more office/on-site attendance or travel.

     

    COVID-19 Vaccination: 

    All employees are required to be fully vaccinated and boosted against COVID-19. To be fully vaccinated means having completed the full dosages required for the type of vaccine obtained as designated by the CDC. If boosters are subsequently recommended by the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) then employees will be required to receive the booster within thirty (30) days of their eligibility to access the boosters.

    Paid Time-Off

    • 23 personal days per calendar year.
    • Up to 20 days of sick time per calendar year.
    • 7 hours of volunteer time.
    • Paid parental leave.
    • Federal holidays.
    • Winter break closure. Typically observed in the last week of December.
  • Technical Proficiency

    The Senior Accountant must possess a strong technical understanding of accounting principles and practices. They should be proficient in using accounting software and possess a strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles). Additionally, the Senior Accountant should possess a solid understanding of financial analysis and be able to interpret financial statements accurately.

     

    Communication and Collaboration

    The Senior Accountant will work closely with other team members, including program leadership members, financial analysts, and auditors. Strong communication and collaboration skills are essential for building effective working relationships, sharing financial information, and providing support and guidance to the senior finance coordinator. The Senior Accountant should be articulate and able to convey complex financial concepts in a clear and concise manner.

  • Qualifications

    • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
    • CPA is preferred, but not required.
    • Working knowledge of GAAP.
    • A minimum of 5 years of experience in non-profit accounting, with at least 2 of those years of experience in a supervisory role.
    •  Availability to work East Coast hours if working outside of this time zone.
    • Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong attention to detail.
    • Proficient in Bill.com, Sage, Paylocity, and Expense wire or ability to learn these systems within their first three months of hire.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Ability to prioritize tasks and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
